I’m often asked about affiliate income and how I build in affiliate income to my everyday business. Much of my affiliate income, six-figure per year comes from software in the form of recurring subscriptions.
This year, I’ve gotten super active in Amazon affiliates as well as with travel affiliates, fashion, home decor and more. It’s stacking quickly. I’m really pleasantly surprised.
So let me just show you how this works really quick.
On my Las Vegas real estate website, I rank for how to get married in Las Vegas. It is my number three or four top visited pages on my website. And honestly, it didn’t take much to get there, surprisingly. My top page is Las Vegas Zip Codes.
The Second one is Las Vegas Strip, and then Summerlin malls, followed by the St. Joseph statue, and then how to get married in Las Vegas.
Clearly, the zip codes Page is taking a monopoly on that one and it ranks for 298 keywords. So if I click on that, which you’re able to see is this one-page ranks for nearly 300 keywords and this is all new.
I just, I just got this really up and running. So here it is here today. It’s on the top of page two and position number 11. Obviously, that’s not where we want to be. We want to push that up. But if you scroll down, you can see that the long tail keywords are actually ranking higher on page one. So how much to get married, how much does it cost to get married?
I’m continuously working to rank these up. In fact, my thought concept is that if this does well enough if I’m actually able to push this up to the top of page one of Google, I may build off a separate niche wedding site for Las Vegas.
I mean, it just makes perfect sense if I’m able to do that and get a lot of traffic and monetize it with ads, Amazon, travel and tours, and limousine service affiliates etc.
So in my case, I always do an intro at the beginning of the blog. I’ll go ahead and open this in a new tab so that you can look at what it looks like behind the scenes.
I use WordPress and there are several options for you if you need to start a WordPress website.
Now I suggest WordPress because it’s the most comprehensive content management system around and more than half of all websites are on the WordPress platform.
WordPress has the largest growth capability and it’s absolutely amazing for the affiliate marketer. Now, you’ve got a couple of options here.
You can have somebody build it for you. So my brother’s over at Ballen Brands: Jeff and Paul, they can actually build it for you, set up your design, set up your WordPress, get you on hosting, integrate your analytics, certain things like that.
Definitely reach out to them if that interests you.
With the Wealthy Affiliate forum, you can become a premium member and access all of the training on learning how to be an affiliate. And you get a suite of WordPress websites that you can actually set up each one as a niche website for this one low monthly fee, like $49.95.
I include a youtube video wherever possible. All you have to do is you just go over to youtube and grab a video that you like that has shared permission on, which most of them do. And you’ll know that because if you click share and you look at embed, as long as that code is there, you’re, you have permission to share this video.
You can’t change it, but you have permission to share it as it is.
Click share, grab the link or code and add it to a content block. Your video will appear on the page for the visitor to watch.
I add a video to every blog I possibly can because I think it adds value to the consumer.
And if you add value to the consumer, you’re going to rank better on the search engines.
Next , I add a button. In this sample, it’s for Las Vegas wedding chapels on Groupon.
So if they click the button (I also have a plugin that makes all my links open in a new window because of the affiliate marketing), they go to my affiliate link page.
If they buy anything, I make a commission.
I did well with my “things to do for Mother’s Day blog”. I’m doing this with 4th of July and Haunted houses and getting married and limo services and shows and all of that.
Obviously being in Vegas, I’m in the hot spot for that, but I also have wild, massive competition, right?
Then underneath that, I have an Amazon item and here’s what I do. Whatever blog I’m creating, I do a Google search for Amazon best sellers in whatever that category is.
For example, if I want to do something for weddings, I type into Google, ‘Amazon best sellers wedding.’
And you can see here Amazon bestsellers in bridal excess accessories, Amazon bestsellers in wedding planners. These are like books to plan your wedding, Amazon bestsellers, wedding and engagement.
Maybe I want to put a wedding dress there. So I go to wedding dresses and look, they have it sorted. This is their number one best selling wedding dress on Amazon.
Then you see #2, #3, #4.
Let’s just say I want to do this one here. Number nine, I have Amazon associates site stripe installed up here. And of course, you do have to go on to Amazon and set up an affiliate account.
You can’t just get paid to share their links, you have to have permission to do so. Go on to Amazon associates, set up your account.
Grab that code, go back over to wherever you want it. Click the plus sign. I’m using WordPress, Gutenberg, custom HTML block. Paste that code, click preview. There it is. And you can even save this. I could go up here and click these three dots and I’m going to say add to reusable blocks. And I title the “widget” Amazon bestseller wedding dress. Amazon already did the research for us. They are already tracking their best sellers. So why guess?
Now, if I want to put a much higher prices item on there for more commission, and I think it’s going to sell, then I can sort by high to low. And instead of number one, you know, putting in the top 10, I can add best sellers ranked highest price to lowest price and put that in there.
In the next block, you’ll see my Viator tour widgets. If you sign up for Vitor through share a sale, or aWIN, you only get 4% from what I saw, but if you use their widget, we get 8%. So it’s worth creating this widget, which is actually super easy to do.
You find your tours, you paste it here, you put in your affiliate Id, you copy the HTML, and you put it in with a Gutenberg content block, just like I did with this Amazon widget.
You can’t just copy and paste their written content describing the item if you want to elaborate on the tour. You have to put it in your own words.
I could also create videos around these items to drive more traffic to the affiliate links or blog page.
“Hey, I would love to come to feature you on my blog. Can I come to take a video?”
You know, and that type of thing.
Or I could just go stand out front of the location and take a video and show people where it is and talk about it and put it on youtube if I want to build a youtube channel around weddings.
It’s really interesting because I’m at that point in my life where I’m the age of a mother of the bride rather than a bride.
My oldest daughter is entering that phase where she’s probably going to be getting married soon.
And I keep saying this is the perfect time for me to branch out on this mother of the bride thing because it actually fits my midlife lifestyle blog and it’ll feed my Las Vegas real estate website, my bridal channel because I’ll be going out and doing all of those wedding things.
It’s a perfect time for me to expand on all of this as we start branching out.
This page here is only 167 words long. And I want to get this page to, you know, maybe 1000 words, and see what I can do about getting it to rank on Google.
